"Come on everybody, lets get this done....numbers in the teens, they start with a "one"! This week we have been working hard on teen numbers. We learned a song on YouTube to help us remember that teen numbers start with a "one" for the one group of ten. The 2nd number is the leftovers. (So 18 is "one" group of ten with 8 leftovers.) Then we did a hands on activity that visually and kinesthetically showed us this concept. Enjoy!
This week in math, we explored with nuts and bolts, dominoes, dot cards, and more. They AMAZED me with the things they were doing. They were sorting by size and color, making patterns, counting them, and comparing them. I see the makings of mathematicians in here!
This was a very exciting day in our classroom! We learned about what a scientist does, and we even got to experience the life of a scientist by MEASURING, OBSERVING, EXPERIMENTING, ASKING QUESTIONS, etc. We learned that WE are scientists when we are exploring the world in our every day lives. Enjoy seeing the fun we had!
What a great two weeks it was! Our first weeks together were full of smiles, laughing, handshakes, and hugs. We spent lots of time getting to know each other. We drank jitter juice to get the jitters out, read lots of stories, talked about rules, learned about numbers, looked forward to recess, and had a start strong rally to remind us to start the year strong! Enjoy the pictures of our first days in first grade!
I love being a teacher! This is my 6th year, and I love to watch these amazing kiddos grow right in front of my eyes. I am privileged to provide them with hands on learning experiences that will help them love learning. Have fun taking a peek into our classroom!
